Jonathan Cheban, best friend to reality TV queen Kim Kardashian, is going for a new title: Burger king.
Cheban is set to open the Burger Bandit restaurant in Long Island, New York this week as part of what he hopes will turn into a global franchise, The Wall Street Journal reports. Cheban, a publicist, occasional star on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and founder of TheDishh.com, said he has already received an offer to open seven more locations in Dubai.
“I’m really proud of him,” Kardashian said at a recent event. “I love it when people do entrepreneurial kinds of things.”
Cheban, who also has a Japanese restaurant in Miami Beach called Sushi Couture, said he chose Long Island — specifically Lynbrook — for his “fast casual” restaurant because it is “a normal place,” and not a big, splashy city.
As for the burger joint’s concept? Cheban said the restaurant is “a cross between a Five Guys and a Shake Shack.” And the burgers he’s selling are also a bit of a hybrid: At a little over 2 oz., they’re bigger than a slider but smaller than a burger. The “bandits” will be served on potato buns with a secret sauce.
“I don’t like fancy burgers, or burgers that come with blue cheese and potato and a thousand things. I don’t like them with 55 toppings,” Cheban explained. “I like burgers how I like my pizza: plain and simple.”
The menu will also include a toasted marshmallow milkshake and eventually, veggie burgers and gluten-free buns.
